Preliminary Inspection

 

A Preliminary Inspection will be conducted prior to the start of explosive cleaning. The Primary Blaster will inform the Plant Representative of any uncharacteristic slagging deposits if any exist. Observation ports not being used for cleaning access will be closed at this time.

 

 

 

 

Warning Systems

 

Signs/Lights/Barricades

Warning signs and flashing lights will be erected in order to create a 50" barrier to minimize the entrance of unauthorized personnel. Barricade tape will be erected at all entry points to the level where blasting is taking place. The levels above and below the blasting area will also be barricaded

 

Safety Review

Prior to the commencement of cleaning operations, a safety meeting will be held with all personnel to address any hazards, concerns or other characteristics about the general area to be cleaned.

 

Verbal Announcement

An announcement stating that blasting will begin, will be given ten minutes prior to the start of explosive cleaning. Announcements will also be given prior to each blast. The time increments of the announcement before each blast will be determined with the customer before cleaning operations commence. Any personnel in the immediate area assisting the blasting team will be cleared at this time.

Detonation System

 

Non-Electric Detonation

Firebox: A non-electric detonator will be placed into each charge and will be initiated with the use of a single fire zipgun. This initiation will be done by the assistant blaster upon instruction from the blaster.

Backpass: A non-electric delay detonator will be connected to each individual length of Primeacord to create a sequential detonation.

Shot Placement

Explosive charges will be placed by the Primary and Secondary Blasters when the boiler temperature will permit. The following factors will be used to determine shot placement: size of deposit, configuration of deposit, tube thickness of area where deposit is located and the temperature of deposit. The Primary Blaster will coordinate with the Plant Representative on air flow / fan control to finalize clearing of dust following the explosive detonation.

Final Inspection

The Plant Representative will be contacted on hour prior to anticipated completion time in order to perform final inspection. If no further cleaning is required, all barricades, signs and lights will be removed. During this time, the Primary Blaster will present the report of explosive operations along with the Quality Assurance questionnaire to the Plant Representative for signature.

 

Quality Assurance

A Quality Assurance questionnaire will be presented to the Plant Representative upon completion of cleaning. This questionnaire will allow the customer the opportunity to evaluate blasting personnel and identify any areas of improvement that my be required.
